Being new to the idea of skin care, I asked my mom about building up my skin care regime as well as some of my friends. Now there was one thing about this whole taking care of my skin to keep it baby bottom smooth that got me. Why do I need a day AND night moisturizer? I mean aren’t they the same thing?
My mom, being her smart adult-parent-like self told me that it was because there is a day and a night in a 24-hour period. Har har mother, I forgot to keel over in laughter.
And no, I didn’t ask my friends… why? Because I felt awfully silly asking them. I mean at my age most people assume that girls know what’s in their make-up bag. But I think most people forget that for the past two decades-ish I’ve had nothing but chapstick and body lotion in this invisible make-up bag.
I digress. Day and night lotion. No clue what they were and me, not being my intelligent self, decided to experiment. I wore the so called day and night creams as prescribed for a day or so then reversed the order.
- Night cream is by far thicker and heavier than Day cream. Wearing it to sleep wasn’t bad since I wasn’t out in the scorching sun to sweat globs of greyish ooze over my clothes. I think I might have made a child cry in horror at one point.
- Day cream has this wonderful feature of being UV safe which means that I don’t have to double layer with sun block, yay!
Now those were the only real differences that I felt or knew without digging into the chemistry of the creams, which I refuse to do since that’s just a bunch of mumbo jumbo. I also assume that the effects of the two creams would have different results on different skin types. I, myself, have sensitive dry skin and find the difference in creams to be a blessing since the night moisturizer tends to irritate me during the day for some reason (though it could be a mental thing).
On a whole different matter, I need a more custom blog layout… does anyone feel like making me one ;}

/ June 24, 2010I don’t think you should feel silly asking about these things. Not everyone are into skin care and cosmetics to know everything there is about them.
As for the difference between the night creams and day creams, they are pretty much the same and yet not quite. Depends on what kind you purchase. Night creams tend to feel a bit heavier because they are filled with more “active” ingredients that replenishes and “work” on your face, so to speak, while as day creams focuses more on hydration and UV protection, etc. But in the end, they pretty much are the same~ don’t know what kind of night cream you used but you should look for one that are “light”~ which reduces a lot on the whole greasy heavy sensation on your face.

/ July 1, 2010I always feel silly, especially when it comes to the feminine stuff. I mean, I still blush when I go to buy pads and tampons -__-;;

/ July 1, 2010Man, I didn’t even know there were such things as Day and Night cream. I thought moisturizer was moisturizer and that was that. Now I know! So yeah, you definitely shouldn’t feel bad about not knowing the difference – not all girls are super into makeup/skincare stuff, and that’s fine! I usually end up making my own lotion because I’m terrified of the chemicals in lotions. I prefer my homemade stuff over the store-bought kind any day!

/ July 1, 2010Homemade? Wow… I’m terrified to put something I make on my face since I’m easily irritable, but perhaps your way makes more sense?

/ August 25, 2010Becky’s lotion is actually a LOT better for dry skin than a lot of commercial ones I’ve come across. I haven’t put hers on my face but I slather it on my elbows and hands, which get really cracked in winter and they don’t irritate it at all. I used to not put on lotion because it hurt my hands, they were so dry. Now I’m not as afraid of it with real oil-based lotions (which hers is, being mostly olive oil…)

/ July 1, 2010I think that is a perfectly normal question to ask. I do a lot for my skin and face these days because of acne and dry-oily skin. I had my dermatologist tell me what kind of things she thought would be best for me and they do work well. I mostly just use sunblock meant for the face for my daily moisturizer because it really does help with aging and keeps any marks on your face from getting sun damage and being on their forever. 0_0
P.S. I love that icon. :hearts: Full House

/ July 1, 2010Ah. Good to know about the sunblock.
And yes, I love Full House! I’m looking forward to Full House 2 though I’m not sure if I’ll have any real expectations. Korean sequels tend to be very different from the original.
