Tomboy Skin Care 101

tomboy-skin-care-101

It finally happened. I have entered the realm of beauty and fashion, so to speak. Being in my mid-20s, I have come to realize that my skin isn’t what it used to be. I mean, my skin was dry and sensitive to start out with, but it has just gotten worse. It no longer really retains moisture so I’m getting get wrinkle lines, ew.

Wait, I have to come clean. I don’t really care about the wrinkle lines. It’s just that my mom freaked out one day and wouldn’t shut it about skin care until I promised to look in to it. Thus the purpose of this post really.

Apparently there are three essential items to skin care:

  • Cleanser – gets all the oil and dirt out and helps prevent acne.
  • Toner/Freshener – cleans the pores and then shrinks them to prevent further junk build up.
  • Moisturizer – hydrates your skin and sometimes protects it from UV and improve skin damage/tone.

Oh and another thing I learned is that girls (or women if you prefer) my age need to exfoliate at least once a week. This meant that my mom and I had our very first girly make-up-like moment as we played with a lemon mask. Well, it was more like her lecturing me on how to apply and rub in the mask so that I don’t get any more wrinkles whilst I just sat there staring at the mirror thinking that I was creeping myself out.

Anyways! I need to start shopping around for my skin care regime. If you have any suggestions on good and cheap products for my skin type then let me know.

  1. LOL. Yeah my mom’s like that too. I’m not so sure about skin care products though, so I like to keep it simple and use things with only one ingredient for those three things (well, except soap but I at least want my soap to be real [vegetable glycerin] soap): witch hazel for toner and aloe vera gel for moisturizer. Sometimes I use jojoba oil for moisturizer, but only when my skin’s feeling really dry.

I like to keep things simple too. I hate having to worry about what’s in the stuff. My brother tells me to use Witch Hazel so I might just do that if I can find the bottle we had.

  2. Ahh, shopping for skin care products is so much fun :D I’d recommend something fragrance-free for you since you have sensitive skin. Try the aveeno brand from the drugstore, they have some decent products (for your skin type) for low prices. Good luck!

I don’t like shopping in general so I’m not sure how fun this will be, lol. But yeah, fragrance-free is a must since I get headaches easily – even from the lightest scent. Ooh… Aveeno. I like their lotions so I will most definitely check out the rest of their products. Thanks!

    Omomo… what’s this?! =P Just kidding!
You should get exfoliating facial scrubs~ easier and quicker than masks. Have you ever used any of Neutrogena products? If not, you should give them a try. They have a wide assortment of skin care products for all skin types~ Nivea isn’t bad either.

You should start investing on eyecare products woman! Haha~ I heard that this is the age that you want to stock up on collagen for your eyes or something or other so that when you get older, your skin around your eyes won’t be as aged as it would be or whatnot.

Personally, best wrinkle prevention or less of as you age are water (drink lots of it) and sunblock. Did I deviate a bit much from your post? =3
